An omelet is more than just a light and delicious egg dish — it is also a nutritious source of energy for the body. Eggs are rich in easily digestible protein, B vitamins, choline, and lecithin — biologically active compounds that support normal brain function.

Steamed omelet

Steaming makes this omelet a low-calorie, fluffy, and tender dish that practically melts in your mouth. Adding turmeric gives it a beautiful, rich golden-yellow color while enhancing its nutritional value.

The main active compound in turmeric is curcumin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Black pepper contains piperine, a compound that may enhance curcumin absorption. Turmeric also contains B vitamins, including B1, B2, and B6, which play important roles in nervous system and brain function, as well as vitamin C, which supports the body’s natural defenses.

  • 1 teaspoon butter;

How to make a steamed omelet: step-by-step instructions

Beat the eggs. In a deep bowl, salad bowl, or large cup, beat the eggs using a whisk or an electric mixer on its lowest setting. Add the milk. Gradually pour in the milk while stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth.

Season the mixture. Add the salt and turmeric powder, then mix thoroughly to distribute the spices evenly. Prepare the baking dish. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter. Add any remaining butter to the egg-and-milk mixture, then pour the mixture into the prepared dish.

Set up the water bath. Place a clean kitchen towel or cloth napkin at the bottom of a saucepan. Set the dish containing the uncooked omelet on top of the cloth. Pour water into the saucepan until it reaches approximately halfway up the sides of the dish.

Steam the omelet. Cover the saucepan with a lid and bring the water to a boil. Let the omelet steam for 4–5 minutes, then turn off the heat.

Serve and enjoy. The steamed omelet is ready to serve immediately after cooking. It pairs wonderfully with wheat or rye bread, fresh vegetables, and herbs. For an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal, sprinkle it with sesame seeds, finely chopped dill, or parsley.

Tips and variations:

You can substitute butter with sesame oil, sunflower oil, or mustard oil, depending on your taste preferences. For a more aromatic and savory steamed omelet, try adding a little dried garlic and freshly ground black pepper along with the turmeric.

These oils, along with a wide selection of other handcrafted, unrefined oils, spices, and seasonings, are available at the CraftOil online store in Ukraine.
