Tomatoes are one of those summer vegetables that many people simply can’t imagine their warm-weather meals without. And rightly so – these vibrant members of the nightshade family are packed with vitamins and minerals while remaining low in calories. They are suitable even for those on strict diets or anyone trying to lose weight.
Stuffed tomatoes make for a light, low-calorie snack that will certainly please fans of spicy, savory flavors. You don’t need much time, effort, or special culinary skills to prepare them. All you need are a few ripe tomatoes, fresh cottage cheese, herbs, and a couple of tablespoons of cold-pressed black cumin oil (also known as kalonji oil or Nigella sativa oil). This oil gives the dish its distinctive aromatic and tangy flavor.
Black cumin oil contains phytoncides – natural compounds with antibiotic-like, antiviral, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also rich in omega fatty acids, which help regulate lipid metabolism and support healthy weight management. Furthermore, this oil is packed with essential amino acids, micronutrients, and macroelements vital for human health.

Ingredients (serves 4)
To prepare stuffed tomatoes, you need:
- 8 small or 4 medium tomatoes;
- 200 g of cottage cheese;
- 1 small bunch of fresh dill;
- 2 garlic cloves;
- 2 tsp adjika (spicy paste);
- 2 tbsp black cumin oil (kalonji oil);
- 1 tsp salt;
- 4 basil leaves for garnish;
Step-by-step recipe
Prepare the tomatoes: Wash them thoroughly and pat dry with a towel or paper napkin. Slice off the tops and carefully scoop out the insides with a teaspoon. Set the pulp aside in a separate bowl.
Prep the filling: Peel and press the garlic (or finely chop it). Rinse and finely chop the dill.
Make the stuffing: In a mixing bowl, combine cottage cheese, the scooped tomato pulp, adjika, garlic, and chopped herbs. Mix well. Add salt and black cumin oil, then stir again until smooth.
Assemble: Fill each hollowed tomato with the cottage cheese mixture. Arrange on a serving plate or tray, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve immediately.
Tips & Variations:
For a spicier twist, add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper to the stuffing. You can substitute mustard oil for black cumin oil if desired.
