Chinese cabbage and grapefruit salad is a light, refreshing, and healthy dish that’s perfect for summer. Cabbage salads are among the most popular seasonal recipes because they are low in calories, packed with vitamins and minerals, and keep you feeling full for longer. This healthy Chinese cabbage salad recipe is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a fresh alternative to traditional cabbage salads with cucumbers and tomatoes.
This vibrant grapefruit salad with Chinese cabbage combines crisp vegetables with juicy citrus fruit, creating a delicious balance of sweet and tangy flavors. It pairs perfectly with potato dishes, rice, buckwheat, quinoa, and other grain-based side dishes. The secret ingredient is dried dill, which gives the salad a rich herbal aroma and a distinctive savory taste.
Dried dill is naturally rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A), B vitamins (especially B1, B2, B6, and B9), calcium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, iron, and beneficial flavonoids. Regular consumption of dill supports healthy digestion, helps maintain a balanced gut microbiome, strengthens the immune system, and promotes overall well-being.
CraftOil offers an extensive and regularly updated selection of natural spices, herbs, seasonings, and dried herbs. Ingredients
For 4 servings, you will need:
- 1 small head of Chinese cabbage (about 800 g);
- 1 large apple (tart or sweet-tart variety);
- 1 grapefruit;
- 2–3 green onions (scallions);
- 1 teaspoon dried dill;
- 1 tablespoon canned green peas;
- ½ teaspoon salt;
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (or substitute sour cream or plain Greek yogurt);
How to make chinese cabbage and grapefruit salad
Wash the Chinese cabbage under cold running water, pat it dry with a clean kitchen towel, and finely shred it.
Wash and slice the green onions. Wash the apple, peel it if the skin is tough, then grate it or finely dice it. Wash the grapefruit, peel it, remove the membranes if desired, and cut each segment into 2–3 bite-sized pieces.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded Chinese cabbage, green onions, grapefruit, grated apple, and green peas. Add the dried dill, salt, and mayonnaise (or your preferred dressing). Toss everything gently until evenly coated. Serve immediately for the freshest flavor and crisp texture.
Tips:
To reduce sodium intake, replace regular table salt with Svan salt or Adyghe salt. For a richer herbal flavor, add a small amount of dried parsley and ground coriander along with the dried dill.
These herbs, together with many other natural spices, dried herbs, seasoning blends, and spice mixes for meat, poultry, and fish, are always available in the CraftOil online store.
