Ingredients (3 servings)

For a simple and hearty macaroni casserole, you will need:

  • 200 g macaroni;
  • 2 chicken eggs;
  • 200 g milk (preferably 3.2% fat);
  • ½ tsp salt;
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil;
  • ½ processed cheese block (about 50 g);
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper;

Step-by-step instructions

Cook the macaroni in lightly salted water until done, then drain and rinse under running water. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with salt and black pepper. Add the milk and mix thoroughly.

Grate the processed cheese or chop it finely with a knife.

Pour the sunflower oil into a deep baking dish or saucepan, add the macaroni, and pour the egg-milk mixture over them. Sprinkle with grated processed cheese. Bake for 20 minutes at 180–185°C (355–365°F).

Serve the finished casserole hot, cutting it into individual portions. If desired, sprinkle with freshly chopped herbs (dill, parsley, basil).

Notes:

Instead of sunflower oil, you can also use corn oil or camelina oil. They have a neutral, mild flavor and a high smoke point. CraftOil’s online store offers an excellent selection of raw, unrefined vegetable oils suitable for frying, sautéing, and various cooking methods.
