Healthy, balanced nutrition has evolved from a fashionable trend into a lifestyle for millions of people worldwide. Modern men and women have become more selective and responsible about the food they consume. As a result, the demand for natural and organic products has grown significantly: farm-fresh meat and dairy, fruits and vegetables cultivated in eco-friendly regions, as well as raw cold-pressed vegetable oils.

Moreover, the value of cold-pressed oils continues to increase every year. Flaxseed oil, camelina oil, sunflower oil, amaranth oil, and many other natural oils are now widely used not only in cooking, but also in herbal medicine, naturopathy, and even homemade skincare products. Many people who regularly use these oils eventually start thinking about making oil themselves at home.

Anyone considering this opportunity will certainly be interested in the story of a woman for whom buying an oil press first became a necessity and later turned into a profitable business.

Oil making without a business plan: why I needed an oil press

Press working

Not long ago, I was an ordinary bank employee. Then I went on maternity leave with my first child, followed by a second maternity leave. My younger child had serious health issues, and at the age of two was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis. Endless examinations by immunologists and allergists showed almost nothing. According to the tests, the child was healthy, but in reality, the rashes, redness, and itching lasted for months.

Eventually, doctors concluded that it was a reaction to chemicals and additives in food.

We had to sell our apartment in the city and move to a nearby village, where my husband and I started growing vegetables and fruits ourselves. We bought a goat and gave our children only fresh goat milk. We also learned how to make homemade cottage cheese, butter and cheese. It was not easy, but we had no other choice.

Vegetable oils turned out to be an even bigger challenge. None of the store-bought oils — even premium-quality olive oil — worked well for my child. I began researching how commercial oils are produced and what happens before they reach supermarket shelves.

Deodorization, refining, and winterization are processes that destroy most of the beneficial properties of oils, turning them into products that are often useless and sometimes even harmful.

That was when I realized oils should be made the traditional way — by cold pressing.

It turned out that oil production requires only a few things: a reliable oil press machine, a pressing barrel (mold), and high-quality raw materials such as untreated seeds and grains without preservatives.

An additional benefit was discovering that oils can be produced not only from sunflower seeds, corn, or flax. Pumpkin seed oil, walnut oil, sesame oil, poppy seed oil, and many other varieties are incredibly flavorful and contain unique health benefits.

I started selling my oils completely by accident. One day, my close friend visited us and tried a simple cabbage salad dressed with fresh walnut oil. She was amazed by the taste and immediately asked where she could buy such delicious oil.

When she learned that I produced the oils only for my family, she said I was missing a great business opportunity. She suggested creating social media accounts and offering the oils for sale online.

At first, the demand was modest. But over time, loyal customers appeared, and word-of-mouth recommendations brought more and more people to me.

Later, I participated in a handmade and craft products exhibition where I presented my natural oils. Today, I own three oil presses and have many regular customers. Each client receives freshly pressed oil made on the same day it is shipped by courier or postal service.

What started as a necessity eventually became a successful business. Today, I produce natural cold-pressed oils not only for my family but also for everyone who values healthy nutrition and premium-quality food products.
