Braised cabbage is a simple yet incredibly delicious dish that makes a perfect side for grains, potatoes, meat, fish, and many other meals. This light, low-calorie vegetable dish is sure to appeal even to people who do not consider themselves big fans of vegetables.
Adding pink peppercorns and allspice gives braised cabbage a distinctive spicy flavor and rich aroma while also adding valuable nutrients to the dish.
Allspice contains essential oils and tannins that may support healthy digestion, help maintain a balanced intestinal environment, and contribute to normal metabolism. It is also a source of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system.
Pink peppercorns are the dried berries of Brazilian and Peruvian pepper trees (Schinus). They contain B vitamins, which are important for the normal functioning of the brain and central nervous system, as well as bioavailable iron. Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin and plays an important role in cellular energy production and ATP synthesis.
CraftOil offers a wide selection of natural spices, dried herbs, and seasonings. Our catalog includes both allspice and pink peppercorns, stored under optimal conditions and packaged in practical plastic jars on the day your order is placed.

Ingredients
For spicy braised cabbage, you will need the following ingredients (serves 4):
- ½ medium head of white cabbage;
- 1 bell pepper;
- 1 small onion;
- 2 garlic cloves;
- 1 carrot;
- 2 medium tomatoes;
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying;
- 1 pinch pink peppercorns;
- ½ teaspoon ground allspice;
- 1 bay leaf;
- 1 full teaspoon salt;
How to make braised cabbage step by step
Rinse the cabbage under running water and cut the head in half. Set one half aside and thinly shred the cabbage using a knife or a special cabbage slicer.
Peel the onion and garlic and chop them finely. Alternatively, the garlic can be pressed through a garlic press. Peel and wash the carrot, then grate it or cut it into small cubes, depending on your preference.
Rinse the tomatoes and chop them as finely as possible. Wash the bell pepper and pat it dry with a paper towel. Remove the seeds and stem, then cut the pepper into thin strips.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet. Once the oil is hot, add the onion, garlic, and carrot. Sauté until golden and fragrant.
Add the shredded cabbage, bell pepper, tomatoes, pink peppercorns, allspice, and bay leaf. Season with salt, mix gently, and braise over medium heat for approximately 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
The cabbage is ready to serve immediately after cooking. It is equally delicious served warm or chilled.
Recipe notes:
If desired, garnish the braised cabbage with finely chopped fresh herbs before serving. For frying, it is best to use unrefined vegetable oils with a high smoke point, such as sunflower, corn, mustard, or sesame oil.
