Lime seed oil: what it is and how to make it at home

Lime is one of the most popular representatives of the citrus family. Its fruits are widely used in cooking, folk and even conventional medicine, as well as in cosmetology. Lime juice is a traditional ingredient in guacamole sauce, cocktails such as daiquiri and mojito, and an essential component of ceviche — marinated seafood.

However, few people know that raw oil is pressed from lime seeds. This is a unique and quite rare product known for its anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and many other beneficial properties.

It is important not to confuse cold-pressed lime seed oil with lime essential oil — these are two completely different products. Lime seed oil is obtained using the cold pressing method, while lime essential oil is produced by steam distillation from the peel (less often from dried pulp) of the fruit.

Health benefits of lime seed oil

Cold-pressed oil extracted from lime seeds is distinguished by an exceptionally rich vitamin and mineral profile. It contains:

• Vitamins A, C, and E, which have strong immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties. Vitamin A (retinol) is essential for eye health and helps prevent dry eye syndrome. Uses of lime seed oil

Lime seed oil can be taken internally in small amounts, but it is much more commonly used topically. When mixed in equal parts with another cold-pressed oil, it perfectly moisturizes and tones the skin. Spot application on acne and pimples helps reduce localized swelling, redness, and inflammation.

To combat excessively oily scalp, it is recommended to add 1 teaspoon of lime seed oil to a single portion of shampoo or conditioner.

Lime oil has a very strong, rich aroma. It is used for room fragrance and aromatherapy sessions. Its fresh citrus scent is highly invigorating and helps relieve migraines caused by vascular spasms in the head.

Raw lime seed oil is a relatively rare product. However, it can be made at home if you have a sufficient amount of raw material (lime seeds) and a special oil press equipped with a polymer (caprolon) or wooden (ash wood) press barrel.
