Aging is an inevitable and, unfortunately, irreversible process. It cannot be stopped or reversed, but it can be slowed down by maintaining a healthy daily routine, getting enough sleep, and, of course, taking proper care of your skin. One of the most powerful natural anti-aging remedies is hazelnut oil. Cosmetologists often call it the «oil of youth» because its effectiveness can surpass many high-end cosmetic products.

How hazelnut oil affects the skin

Hazelnut oil

Raw hazelnut oil contains a record amount of tocopherol, a fat-soluble vitamin known for its powerful antioxidant properties. It protects the epidermis from the negative effects of free radicals that cause photoaging and premature loss of skin firmness (tone). In addition, vitamin E strengthens cell membranes, allowing the skin to properly perform its most important role — the protective barrier function.

Hazelnut oil contains several forms of vitamin E, including alpha-tocopherol, the most biologically active form. It accelerates the regeneration of epidermal and dermal tissues and stimulates collagen fiber production, helping the skin remain smooth and elastic.

The oil also contains polyphenols, highly active organic compounds that act as antioxidants. They help reduce the risk of oncological damage and neurodegenerative skin conditions.

Another valuable component of hazelnut oil is unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9), which make up as much as 94% of its composition. These fatty acids restore the skin’s hydrolipid barrier, helping the epidermis retain moisture and preventing dryness, tightness, flaking, and premature aging. They also strengthen collagen fibers, providing a strong anti-aging effect.

How to use hazelnut oil in skincare

Hazelnut oil belongs to the category of so-called «dry oils». It absorbs quickly, does not clog pores, and leaves no greasy residue on the face or body. This makes it one of the best skincare ingredients for mature, oily, and sensitive skin prone to irritation and redness.

It can be used in several ways added to day and night creams, mixed into face masks and toners, used as a massage oil and applied directly for skin and hair oil treatments.

A mixture of hazelnut oil with a few drops of lemon essential oil can help tighten pores and reduce unwanted oily shine on the face.

In addition, hazelnut oil effectively soothes the skin and relieves irritation, making it an excellent natural alternative to after-sun skincare products.

Naturally, only fresh, raw (unrefined) hazelnut oil retains all of these valuable properties. To produce it at home, you need a special oil press, a pressing barrel (mold), and raw materials — unroasted hazelnut kernels.
