Artificial intelligence has long ceased to be merely a convenient service. It has become an important, and sometimes indispensable, part of most areas of modern life. Agriculture and the palm oil industry are no exception.

What is Vision AI and how will it work?

During the cultivation of oil palm seedlings, the system will analyze leaf color, canopy density and crown structure, identifying abnormalities and promptly reporting them to the relevant agricultural services.

Vision AI will also be capable of detecting basal stem rot in the field — one of the most common and dangerous diseases affecting oil palm trees.

Another potentially promising application is palm oil production forecasting. By analyzing the number of fruit bunches and comparing this data with the harvest readiness index, artificial intelligence will be able to estimate how much palm oil could potentially be produced during the current season.

This information could be extremely useful for planning the production capacity of palm oil processing facilities and optimizing logistics.

AI could also potentially be trained to assess the quality of harvested oil palm fruit, identifying unripe, rotten, dried-out or damaged fruit. This could reduce the amount of pre-processing required and potentially improve the quality of the final palm oil product.

The fat extracted from oil palm fruit is widely used in the food industry, as well as in the production of household chemicals, cosmetics and even biofuels.

In contrast, genuinely natural and minimally processed oils are often produced using cold-press extraction, which helps preserve more of the natural properties of the raw material.
