Description

Dual-Flow Hydraulic Power Unit, 3 kW, 380 V, 30 L Tank, with Foot Pedal

CraftOil hydraulic equipment · Stock and service in Ukraine · Technical assistance with equipment selection

The CraftOil 3 kW dual-flow hydraulic power unit with foot-pedal control is designed for industrial workstations that require reliable hydraulic operation throughout a production shift. It combines a three-phase 380 V electric motor, a two-line hydraulic circuit for compatible double-acting cylinders, electromagnetic directional control and a 30-litre oil reservoir.

With a specified maximum pressure of 70 MPa (700 bar), a first-stage flow rate of 14 L/min and a second-stage flow rate of 2.8 L/min, this hydraulic power pack is intended for demanding applications such as cable lug crimping, hydraulic pressing, cable cutting and other compatible industrial hydraulic operations.

The foot pedal controls the hydraulic flow through an electromagnetic valve, allowing operators to keep their hands available for positioning and securing the workpiece. The three-phase motor is suitable for facilities with an appropriate 380 V electrical supply.

This configuration is particularly worth considering for cable-processing plants, electrical installation companies, production workshops and service departments where hydraulic tools are used repeatedly throughout the working day.

Why choose a 3 kW, 380 V hydraulic power unit with a foot pedal?

For repetitive industrial work, the motor power, electrical supply and control method all matter. This configuration combines a three-phase motor with foot-pedal operation to support an organised production workflow.

1. Three-phase power for industrial applications

A 380 V three-phase motor is designed for facilities with a suitable three-phase electrical supply. Compared with a single-phase configuration of similar rated power, it generally offers balanced operation across the phases and does not require the same single-phase starting-capacitor arrangement.

The supplied reference current for this configuration is approximately 6–7 A per phase. Actual current depends on the motor, load, supply conditions and starting characteristics; the electrical installation must be selected and checked by a qualified electrician.

Important: A three-phase supply is required for this version. If your facility only has a 220 V single-phase supply, ask CraftOil about the corresponding single-phase model.

2. Foot-pedal control for repetitive work

When positioning a cable lug under a crimping tool, an operator may need both hands to keep the cable and die aligned. Foot-pedal control allows the hydraulic function to be operated without reaching for a manual lever.

Potential benefits include:

  • Easier workpiece positioning during repeated operations

  • Less movement between the work area and the hydraulic control

  • A more convenient workflow at high-volume workstations

  • Consistent operation when used with the correct tooling and procedure

The actual cycle time depends on the connected cylinder, its displacement, the operating pressure and the task.

3. Electromagnetic flow control

The foot pedal operates the electromagnetic directional valve, which controls hydraulic flow. In this configuration, the motor can run while the operator uses the pedal to control the hydraulic function, subject to the unit’s operating instructions and thermal limits.

This can reduce the need to start and stop the motor for every individual operation. However, continuous operation should not be assumed to be appropriate under all conditions. At high idle-flow rates, hydraulic oil can heat up, so the operating cycle and oil temperature must be monitored.

4. Dual-flow operation for compatible double-acting cylinders

The dual-flow circuit supplies the cylinder’s two working chambers in the required sequence, allowing powered extension and powered retraction when used with a compatible double-acting cylinder and the correct valve arrangement.

This is useful when:

  • The cylinder has two hydraulic ports

  • The piston must retract under hydraulic pressure

  • The application requires a controlled return stroke

  • A spring-return mechanism is unsuitable for the task

The correct hose arrangement and directional-valve configuration must be confirmed before connection. The term “dual-flow” alone does not establish compatibility with every hydraulic cylinder.

Hydraulic flow rate and estimated cycle time

The pump has two specified flow stages:

  • First stage: 14 L/min at 2 MPa (20 bar)

  • Second stage: 2.8 L/min at 70 MPa (700 bar)

The higher first-stage flow supports faster movement under low-pressure conditions, while the lower second-stage flow corresponds to the high-pressure stage.

The following table shows idealised filling-time estimates based on the supplied second-stage flow rates for different power-unit configurations. These figures are mathematical estimates, not guaranteed real-world cycle times.

Actual extension and retraction times depend on the effective cylinder area, stroke, working pressure, hydraulic circuit, oil viscosity and system losses. For a double-acting cylinder, both chamber volumes and the flow required for the return stroke must be considered.

The foot pedal can also reduce unnecessary operator movement. Any productivity improvement depends on the existing workstation and production process.

Electrical protection, conductor cross-section and connection requirements must be confirmed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the motor nameplate, manufacturer’s documentation and local electrical regulations.

Is the 30-litre oil tank sufficient?

Reservoir capacity is an important factor when selecting a hydraulic power unit. The tank must accommodate the oil required by the connected equipment while maintaining a suitable reserve and providing sufficient thermal capacity for the operating cycle.

As a preliminary sizing guideline, reserving approximately 20–30% of the nominal tank capacity leaves around 21–24 L for planning purposes in a 30 L reservoir. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed maximum cylinder displacement. The usable oil volume and the actual requirement depend on the cylinder, hose volume, circuit design and the manufacturer’s instructions.

There is also a thermal consideration. A traditional preliminary rule of thumb for reservoir sizing is approximately three to five times the pump’s high-flow rating. If the relevant flow is 14 L/min, this gives a reference range of approximately 42–70 L. This is not a universal design requirement, but it indicates why oil temperature deserves attention when using a 30 L tank under intensive operating conditions.

For demanding production cycles:

  • Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature.

  • Avoid leaving the unit running unnecessarily when no work is being performed.

  • Check the reservoir level before operation.

  • Follow the specified duty cycle and maintenance instructions.

  • Ask CraftOil to review the operating cycle if the station will run for long periods or under heavy load.

The three-phase motor does not eliminate hydraulic heat generation. Thermal performance depends on the complete hydraulic system, not only on the motor type.

Pressure gauge: 1,000 bar scale, 700 bar operating limit

The supplied glycerine-filled pressure gauge has a scale up to 1,000 bar, while the hydraulic power unit’s specified maximum pressure is 700 bar.

Glycerine helps damp needle vibration and can make pressure readings easier to observe in vibrating environments. The gauge scale provides a measurement range beyond the unit’s specified operating pressure.

A 1,000 bar gauge does not increase the permitted working pressure to 1,000 bar. The power unit, cylinders, hoses, couplings, adapters and connected tools must all be rated for the intended operating pressure. Never exceed the lowest applicable pressure rating in the system.

Standard package contents

The standard package includes:

Applications: what can this hydraulic power pack operate?

Subject to pressure, flow, cylinder displacement and circuit compatibility, the unit may be suitable for:

  • Cable lug crimping presses

  • Hydraulic cable cutters

  • Busbar bending machines

  • Hydraulic presses, including cable-processing presses

  • Double-acting hydraulic cylinders

  • Hydraulic jacks designed for the appropriate circuit

  • Pipe-bending equipment

  • Bearing and pulley pullers

The maximum pressure rating alone is not enough to establish compatibility. Before connecting equipment, verify the cylinder type, number of hydraulic ports, required oil volume, return method, operating pressure and connection specifications.

Who should consider this model?

The 3 kW, 380 V dual-flow power unit with foot-pedal control is especially relevant to:

  • Cable manufacturing plants

  • Electrical installation companies with production-scale workloads

  • Industrial workshops with a three-phase power supply

  • Cable assembly and crimping stations

  • Service and repair departments with repeated hydraulic operations

  • Production facilities where the operator benefits from keeping both hands on the workpiece

For occasional use or equipment with modest hydraulic requirements, a lower-power configuration may be sufficient. CraftOil can help you compare the available options.

How to select the right version

Do you have a three-phase supply? If yes, the 380 V version may be suitable. If your facility has only a single-phase 220 V supply, consider the corresponding 220 V model.

Does your cylinder have two hydraulic ports? A compatible dual-flow circuit may be required for powered extension and retraction. Confirm the circuit and valve arrangement before ordering.

Are both hands occupied during production? Foot-pedal control can improve workstation ergonomics when the workpiece needs manual positioning.

What is the required oil volume? Compare the actual cylinder displacement and circuit volume with the usable reservoir capacity. A nominal 30 L tank does not automatically guarantee compatibility with every cylinder up to a particular volume.

Compatibility with CraftOil hydraulic presses

CraftOil manufactures hydraulic presses rated at 50 and 70 tonnes and works with hydraulic equipment in its own workshop. This practical experience helps us discuss the requirements of a press installation, rather than relying on catalogue descriptions alone.

When enquiring about a power unit, provide the following information:

  • The hydraulic press or tool model

  • The cylinder’s number of ports and whether it is single- or double-acting

  • Cylinder displacement or relevant cylinder dimensions

  • Required working pressure

  • Number of operations per shift

  • Whether a three-phase electrical supply is available

  • Expected operating cycle and workload

Based on these details, CraftOil can help assess the required configuration and identify whether a 3 kW, 380 V unit is appropriate or whether a simpler option may be sufficient.

Which hydraulic oil should you use?

The exact oil specification must be checked in the equipment manual. The supplied product information lists the following oil types for consideration:

  • Industrial hydraulic oil with ISO VG 32 or ISO VG 46 viscosity

  • HLP 32 or HLP 46 hydraulic oil

  • I-20A or MGE-46V equivalents, where approved for the specific unit and operating conditions

These products should not be treated as automatically interchangeable. Select oil according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ambient temperature, operating temperature and hydraulic-system requirements.

Oil filling and maintenance

  • Fill the reservoir to the level specified by the manufacturer.

  • Use clean hydraulic oil and suitable filtration when filling.

  • Check the oil level before the first start.

  • Keep the oil clean to reduce the risk of valve malfunction.

  • Monitor oil temperature during intensive operation.

  • Inspect for leaks and deterioration.

  • Follow the manufacturer’s oil-change interval and maintenance schedule.

The supplied source information gives approximately one year as a preliminary oil-change interval, or earlier if the oil becomes dark or develops a burnt smell. Actual service intervals should follow the manufacturer’s manual and operating conditions.

First start-up: checking three-phase motor rotation

With a three-phase motor, the direction of rotation depends on the phase sequence. Incorrect rotation can prevent the pump from developing pressure and may cause inadequate lubrication or damage.

For this reason, the first connection must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the motor and power-unit documentation.

Before commissioning:

  1. Verify the oil level and confirm that the unit is correctly filled.

  2. Check the electrical connections, protective earth and required protective devices.

  3. Perform the initial rotation check strictly according to the manufacturer’s procedure.

  4. If the unit does not develop pressure, stop operation immediately and have the phase sequence checked.

  5. Do not continue running the pump if rotation is incorrect or the pump is not properly supplied with oil.

Do not change electrical phase connections while the equipment is energised. Any correction must be carried out by a qualified electrician with the power isolated and secured.

Safety and operating recommendations

High-pressure hydraulic equipment requires careful installation and operation.

  • Have the three-phase electrical connection completed by a qualified electrician.

  • Use protective earthing and electrical protection appropriate to the installation.

  • Verify the motor’s rotation direction during commissioning.

  • Position the foot pedal to prevent accidental activation and keep its cable away from walkways.

  • Inspect hydraulic hoses, fittings and couplings before operation.

  • Confirm the A and B line connections before pressurising a double-acting cylinder.

  • Never disconnect a quick coupling while the hydraulic circuit is pressurised.

  • Wear appropriate eye protection and follow the instructions for the connected tool.

  • Never exceed the specified pressure rating of the cylinder, hoses, couplings or accessories.

  • The unit weighs approximately 52 kg; use suitable lifting equipment or a two-person handling procedure as appropriate.

Follow the operating manual and all applicable workplace and electrical safety requirements.

Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of the foot-pedal version over the lever-operated version?

The foot pedal allows the operator to control the hydraulic function while keeping both hands available for workpiece positioning. The motor and valve operate according to the unit’s control arrangement and operating instructions. This can be useful in repetitive production, but the appropriate operating cycle must be followed to avoid unnecessary oil heating.

Why choose 380 V instead of 220 V?

The 380 V version uses a three-phase motor. For a similar rated power, three-phase motors generally distribute the electrical load across three phases and do not use the same single-phase starting-capacitor arrangement. The correct choice depends on the electrical supply available at the facility.

Can this model be connected to a single-phase 220 V supply?

No. This version is specified for 380 V three-phase power. If you only have a single-phase supply, ask CraftOil about the corresponding 220 V configuration.

What should I do if the pump does not develop pressure after connection?

Stop the unit and have the electrical connection and motor rotation checked by a qualified electrician in accordance with the manufacturer’s commissioning procedure. Incorrect phase sequence is one possible cause, but other hydraulic or electrical issues may also prevent pressure from developing.

Can the motor run all day?

The appropriate duty cycle depends on the unit’s design, operating conditions and oil temperature. Although the motor may be able to run for extended periods, unnecessary idle operation can heat the oil. Use the manufacturer’s operating instructions and monitor the hydraulic system during intensive production.

What is the maximum connected cylinder volume?

There is no universal maximum cylinder volume that can be established from the 30 L reservoir capacity alone. The usable oil volume, cylinder displacement, hose volume, return-side requirements and thermal operating conditions must all be considered. CraftOil can help review the application if you provide the cylinder specifications.

What hydraulic oil is required?

Use the oil grade specified in the equipment manual. ISO VG 32 or VG 46 hydraulic oils are listed as possible options in the supplied product information, but the final choice must be confirmed for the specific unit and operating conditions.

What is the warranty period?

The specified warranty period is three months. Contact CraftOil for the applicable warranty conditions and service support.
