One of the latter is medlar seed oil, traditionally used in the Middle East for wellness, medicinal and cosmetic purposes.

Composition & health benefits of medlar oil

Medlar oil is rich in vitamins, micro- and macroelements, and organic compounds that positively affect the human body. It contains:

• Vitamins E, A, PP, B group and vitamin C (ascorbic acid);
• Polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenoids (powerful antioxidants);
• Pectin;
• Organic acids: malic, tartaric, citric;
• Phytoncides;
• Omega fatty acids: palmitic, linoleic, behenic and lignoceric;

Oil extracted from medlar seeds (English name: Medlar oil, Botanical: Eriobotrya japonica) is used exclusively externally. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be applied directly to the skin or combined with carrier oils for hair treatment, massage, homemade masks and scrubs for face and body.

Regular use of medlar oil helps to:

• Lighten pigmentation spots, reduce freckle;
• Improve skin elasticity, reduce stretch marks;
• Smooth fine lines and reduce deep wrinkles;
• Provide natural facial contour tightening;

Using medlar oil for hair oiling adds shine and silkiness, smooths hair cuticles, and helps prevent breakage and tangling. Massaging it into the scalp improves microcirculation and strengthens hair follicles, helping to combat hair loss.

Spot application on acne reduces inflammation, redness and swelling. A mix of medlar seed oil with flax or hemp oil is commonly used. Add 7–8 drops of Medlar oil to 10 ml of base carrier oil. This massage blend creates a feeling of freshness and boosts skin regeneration.

Medlar seed oil manufacturing features

Medlar oil is a viscous golden-yellow substance with a delicate fruity-floral aroma, featuring hints of almond and jasmine. It is made from the kernels of medlar fruit seeds, from the evergreen tree Eriobotrya japonica, known as the cup tree or ezgil.

The oil is produced via cold pressing of crushed medlar seeds. It can also be derived from leaves and young shoots using infusion (homemade method) or steam distillation (industrial method), though the resulting product is far less beneficial than seed-derived oil.
