Vegetable oils are used not only in cooking, but also in traditional medicine and home cosmetology. They offer a wide range of benefits for the human body and can help address various health concerns and aesthetic imperfections.

As a rule, almond, apricot, or flaxseed oil is used for beauty treatments. Very few people have heard of pineapple oil. And that is a shame, because in its homeland, Thailand, it is considered one of the best natural products for skin and hair care.

Pineapple oil benefits

Pineapple raw oil

Pineapple oil is intended for external use only. Its value is based on its unique physicochemical composition. This product contains:

  • Bromelain (the main active ingredient) — a complex of enzymes that helps break down fats and reduce inflammatory processes. When applied to the upper layers of the skin, bromelain may also help remove excess fluid, reduce puffiness, and make the appearance of cellulite less noticeable;
  • Potassium — a mineral that helps maintain the body’s water and electrolyte balance and prevents excessive dryness of the epidermis;
  • Magnesium — among other functions, magnesium is involved in the production of collagen fibers, which are essential for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity;
  • Vitamin PP (niacin or niacinamide) — a water-soluble component that helps regulate the functioning of the sebaceous glands;
  • Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) — a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals associated with photoaging and an increased risk of abnormal cell changes;
  • Malic acid — an organic compound belonging to the AHA family of acids. It promotes skin renewal and helps remove the outer layer of dead, keratinized skin cells;

How to use pineapple oil

Pineapple oil can be used for anti-cellulite body wraps as well as manual and machine-assisted massage. Face masks containing pineapple oil may help brighten the skin, make freckles less noticeable, and regulate sebum production.

It can be suitable for all skin types, but it may be particularly beneficial as part of a skincare routine for oily and blemish-prone skin.

Applying a mixture of pineapple oil and castor oil in a 1:1 ratio to the hair can make it feel silky and look shinier, reduce static electricity, and make brushing easier. Applying pineapple oil to the ends of the hair can also help prevent split ends.

How is pineapple oil made?

Pineapple is a fruit that contains virtually no fat. Therefore, pineapple oil is produced exclusively through the infusion method.

The pineapple pulp is cut into very small pieces, dried, and then mixed with a carrier vegetable oil. In Thailand, jojoba oil or evening primrose oil is often used as the base.

This type of pineapple-infused oil can be made at home using pineapple and a suitable carrier oil. The quality of the carrier oil directly affects the properties of the finished pineapple oil and the effectiveness of homemade cosmetic treatments.

Fresh, natural carrier oil can also be produced independently. This requires a special oil press, a pressing chamber or mold, and raw materials such as oil-bearing seeds or grains.
