Almonds are consumed as food, used in confectionery, applied in herbal medicine, and pressed into raw oil \u2014 one of the most effective products for the beauty and health of skin, hair, and nails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet few people know that almonds aren\u2019t technically nuts at all. They are actually stone fruits with inedible flesh and a tasty, aromatic pit \u2014 the part used in cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People discovered the excellent taste and health benefits of almonds not 10 or 100, but several thousand years ago. Almonds are one of those foods surrounded by fascinating historical facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name \u00abalmond\u00bb has Greco-Roman origins. The word derives from amygdalus, which in turn comes from the Hebrew magidyen, meaning \u00abblessed gift of God\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early Christian texts, it is written that the prophet Moses saw a shepherd\u2019s staff suddenly bloom with beautiful flowers, which then bore fruit \u2014 the almond. That\u2019s when the expression \u00abto act oddly\u00bb (related to the Russian expression \u00ab\u043c\u0438\u043d\u0434\u0430\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0438\u0447\u0430\u0442\u044c\u00bb) appeared, meaning to do something unusual or strange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Ancient Rome and Egypt, bakers always added a little almond flour when preparing desserts for nobles. Sweet rolls, flatbreads, and other treats became especially tender and fragrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Arab physician Ibn Massun described a recipe for an almond \u00abmiracle remedy\u00bb to enhance male strength and fertility. He also recommended almonds for those with intestinal problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His colleague Masuri made an almond tincture that helped with bladder issues and normalized kidney function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, almonds and almond oil are used not only in cooking and cosmetics but also in official medicine. Raw fat obtained from these fruits is part of medicines for kidney diseases and liver protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
